Different Kinds of Poetry/Billy Collins

Billy Collins pointed out the other night that there are

  • participatory poems, though I can't find an example of one.

  • self conciliatory poems  (example)
How much better to be in suburbia absorbing hand gestures and road signs than to be roaring down a dirt road kicking up dust everywhere.

How much better to be crossing a covered bridge in Pennsylvania or watching the fading sunsets of a Carolina beach.

Billy Collins came to Duke last week and had the audience in hysterics.  All his talking about dogs finally made me appreciate my cat.
